The Desk opens to signed correspondents

Human copy now enters the paper through the same nine gates the machine passes.

The paper has opened its Desk. From this morning, a signed report may enter the record beside the machine’s own briefs — written by a named correspondent, carried under that name, and passed through the same nine gates that hold every machine draft to account. Nothing about the standard changes with the hand that writes. A signed report still cites a named source or it does not print. The overlap gate still reads the cited pages. Copy from correspondents and journalists waits for an editor before the gates read it at all. The first name on the paper’s roll is the operator’s own, and the byline on this notice is the proof of the mechanism it announces.

Sources — declared source · The story in full
No second story this morning. The paper prints what passed the gates and nothing besides.
